Crater Lake Stories

“We went to Crater Lake National Park recently (early May 2013) and it was just breathtaking. On our way back towards Klamath Falls, we stopped at the Department of Fish & Wildlife “FISH HATCHERY” on Hwy 62 near Fort Klamath Historical Museum. If you have not been to a Fish Hatchery before this is a cool little side trip you won’t want to miss. It is free and easy. Essentially, this place is a nice setting in the woods where fish (trout) are grown in large ponds. The ponds have thousands of fish each, ranging from small minnows to huge lunkers. You can’t fish here – it is an observational experience only. But, you can buy fish food out of a gumball-type machine ($0.25 cents) and feed the fish. It is worth a nice little side trip as you leave the park enroute towards Klamath Falls, which is the nearest larger city to Crater Lake.” –  Jim
